Special steel shop
The steel shop of IMA-METAV SA has a technological flow using state-of-the-art equipment as well as a vacuum induction melting furnace, made by CONSARC USA.
The capacity is 2500 kg/melt, and includes a vacuum electro re-melting furnace.
- Vacuum induction melting furnace of 2.500 kg.
- Vacuum arc re-melting installation of 1.000 kg.
This technological flow guarantees to all our customers a special quality of the products (steels, special alloys, etc.) according to standards compatible with top-fields industries: aircraft, nuclear, medical, military, etc.
The manufacturing process consists of vacuum preparation of the steels or alloys, casting of electrodes, machining and finally the re-melting in the vacuum arc unit.
The VAR ingot obtained will be plastically deformed at high temperature using different methods (forging, rolling, etc.) insuring the highest quality of the final product as per specified by our customers.
This manufacturing flow assures a much superior quality of the final products, as follows:
- Strict control of the melt chemistry (much stricter that the commercial specification requirements);
- Very high purity with a very low non-metallic inclusions, and the optimum morphology;
- Extremely low gas content of the alloy;
- Optimum solidification structure for the hot plastic deformation, having as result the increase of the plasticity of the alloys and steels by 30%.
- Significant yield increase for the final forged bar, giving important economic and qualitative
The manufactured product range covers the following domains:
STEELS
- Stainless and refractory steels: W1.4541, W1.4571, 316, 314, 304, W1.4401, MARAGING, W1.4841.
- High alloyed steels for die-blocks: W85, C120.
- High speed steels: RP3, RP5.
- Any other grades of steel according to technical specifications of the customer.
SPECIAL STEELS
- Ni base alloys
- Hot plastic deformable Ni base alloys: INCONEL X 750, INCALOY 901, INCONEL 625, NC19FeNb, NIMONIC 80A, NIMONIC 90, etc.
- Co base alloys: Stellite, etc.
- Any other grades of special steels according to technical specifications of the customer.
SC IMA-METAV SA also has a 10 kg vacuum induction melting furnace for technological research.
Our company owns the following laboratories: :
- MECHANICAL TESTING (tensile tests, compression, impact test, bending, hardness determination, fatigue, fracture mechanics, creep);
- STRUCTURAL ANALYSES (quantitative and qualitative with optical microscopy);
- SPECTRAL CHEMICAL ANALYSES ultrasonic examination and magnetic particle examination.
Through stringent quality control procedures incorporating computer assistance, these processes can be repeated to produce high performance alloys conforming to the specifications in both chemical and mechanical properties lot by lot or bar by bar.

Due to our equipment capacity, we are able to fulfill orders of 1 tone per type of material. In the case the customer can deliver scrap of the required grade ,the delivery will be accelerated and the price lower.
The vacuum melting furnace capacity is of 2.5t/melt,that of the remelting one is of 2t/melt and during campaign we produce 25-30 melts,which gives a delivery capacity of 1000-1200 t bars and blocks per annum.
